Roger Brindley, vice provost for Penn State Global; Andrea Dowhower interim vice president for Student Affairs; and Renata Engel, vice provost for online education, share resources available for individuals who have been impacted by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, as well as ways to help with the rescue and recovery.
Mike Fidanza, professor of plant and soil sciences at Penn State Berks and former editor-in-chief of the International Turfgrass Society Research Journal, served as the editor of “Achieving Sustainable Turfgrass Management” — a new textbook centered on implementing eco-friendly initiatives in maintaining turfgrass.
Penn State Berks hosted its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This year’s theme was “Together, We Can Be the Dream.”
The Environmental Awareness and Community Action Project has been a major component of the course, which has been taught by Mahsa Kazempour, associate professor of science education, since 2011. At Penn State Berks, students research environmental issues on the local, national, or global level and engage in community-based projects to address sustainability issues in the Berks County area.
Giovanna DeLima is many things: a student at Penn State Berks, a daughter, a friend, a volunteer — and a cancer survivor. She was recently invited to be the featured speaker at the American Cancer Society's "The Future of Cancer Care Forum: Advancing Cancer Research, Innovation, and Health Equity" on Dec. 2, at the Hard Rock Cafe Times Square in New York.
Pamela Shupp Menet, member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, Certified Economic Developer, and director of Community and Economic Development for Berks County, will serve as the honorary keynote speaker for the Penn State Berks fall commencement on Thursday, Dec. 15. Commencement will be held at the Santander Arena in downtown Reading.

When Jeff Jackman enrolled in the Air Force, he wasn’t aware of the educational benefits he was earning through the G.I. Bill. While enlisted, he earned an associate degree in air and space operations technology, and after completing his service, he decided to build on his experience and enroll at Penn State Berks.
The Penn State Berks Fluid Discovery Lab will present “Gallery of Fluid Motion” exhibit in the Freyberger Gallery from Monday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 9, with a reception to follow on the last evening of the exhibition.
